Procurator Fiscal Society signs Dying to Work Charter

COPFS Dying to Work847

The FDA’s Procurator Fiscal Society has joined with the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, the Scottish TUC and PCS, to sign the Dying to Work Charter.

The Charter commits employers to supporting and protecting employees who are faced with a terminal diagnosis. It aims to ensure that those battling a terminal illness have security of work and peace of mind – and the right to choose the best course action for themselves and their families. The Charter also recognises both the need for adequate employment protections, including the protection of death in service benefits, and also that safe and reasonable work can often be of real value in the most challenging times.

The FDA was represented at the signing ceremony by Fiona Eadie, Secretary of the Procurator Fiscal Society, where she joined colleagues including the Crown Agent David Harvie. Eadie explained that “the Charter demonstrates the commitment from COPFS to be a compassionate employer. It will allow informed choice and provide reassurance to staff when it is needed most”.
