About the FDA

For over a century the FDA has been a strong, influential and pragmatic trade union representing public sector leaders and professionals. Our members work in a wide variety of professions, including as policy advisors, prosecutors, diplomats, tax professionals and managers delivering vital public services.

The FDA is an exciting, vibrant and fast-paced union. We are the fastest growing union in the UK, having increased our membership by 40% in the past four years and recently reached record membership of 21,000 members.

What are we looking for

The Head of Organising and Learning is a new post for the FDA. We have experienced tremendous membership growth over the past four years, and we want to maintain this momentum by integrating our learning project more closely with our organising priorities, and by investing heavily in our workplace reps to give our members the highest quality representation.

Since launching FDA Learn over a decade ago, we have engaged thousands of our members through learning events and courses, helping them develop in their careers and improve their working lives. FDA Learn has been successful because we understand what our members need, and have always been able to quickly adapt as those needs change by developing new FDA Learn courses. The Head of Organising and Learning will be responsible for the continued success of FDA Learn and at the forefront of understanding and anticipating what’s next for the civil service and the changing world of work.

We want to invest more heavily in our workplace representatives because they are the backbone of our union. The Head of Organising and Learning will lead our development strategy for reps, ensuring they have the skills, experience and knowledge to give the highest quality individual and collective representation to our members.

This role would be well suited to an individual who is creative, enthusiastic and motivated. This is an incredibly exciting time to join the FDA, we are vibrant, ambitious and growing at a time when the civil service is facing huge challenges.
