Neurodiversity in the workplace
The FDA’s Scottish Government branch hosted an event on ‘Neurodiversity in the workplace’ at the end of May, open to all staff in the Scottish Government and attended by almost 400 people.
The session provided a ‘101 on Neurodiversity’ from mental health, wellbeing and neurodiversity expert Victoria English, helping attendees to ensure that there is was a shared understanding on this issues discussed.
Representing the Scottish Government HR People Advice Team, Dave Jeary discussed what support is available to colleagues and line managers in the workplace.
Finally, a representative of the Scottish Government Neurodiversity Peer Support Network, Lucy McDonald, reflected on her own experiences of neurodiversity at work.
There was time for attendees to put questions and reflections to the panel, with many sharing their own experiences and others keen to learn how they could better support neurodiverse colleagues.
The event was chaired by the Scottish Government branch’s David Leitch, who was able to bring his personal insights on neurodiversity in the workplace into the discussion.
This is the latest in a series of sessions hosted by the branch, on topics including ‘The Perimenopause and the Menopause in the Workplace’ and ‘Mental Health and Wellbeing in the Workplace’.
