Job advert: FDA Communications Officer

Full time, permanent
£29k – 37k depending on experience
Central London location

Your chance to be part of an organisation that defends public servants and promotes public services.

For more than a century the FDA has been a strong, pragmatic union representing public sector managers and professionals. The union is not politically affiliated, and campaigns to improve members’ working lives and the public services they deliver. FDA members work across the public sector, including government policy advisors, prosecutors, economists, diplomats, lawyers and tax professionals.

Your role

As part of a small communications team, this is your opportunity to be involved in all aspects of our communications work. This will include writing, editing and updating our website and email communications; the FDA’s engagement with the media; our growing social media output; working with our branches and sections to develop campaigns and communications strategies; and writing and sub-editing copy for our award-winning magazine. You will be given the opportunity to influence the union’s development of its communications approach.

What we are looking for

You will be a fast learner with good grammar and proof-reading skills, who can quickly write succinct, engaging and accurate copy. You will need to be adaptable, able to work to tight deadlines, and use creativity and initiative within your own appointed projects. Ideally (but not vitally), you’ll have an interest in current affairs and government.

In return you’ll gain a breadth of experience, doing interesting and important work as a part of the FDA’s small, collaborative team. We’ll provide support and training to help you develop in the role.
