Your chance to be part of the fastest growing union in the UK, defending public servants and promoting public services.

For more than a century the FDA has been a strong, pragmatic union representing public sector managers and professionals. Currently the fastest growing union in the UK, the FDA is not politically affiliated, and campaigns to improve members’ working lives and the public services they deliver. Our members work across the public sector, including government policy advisors, prosecutors, economists, diplomats, lawyers and tax professionals.

Your role

As part of a small communications team, this is your opportunity to be involved in every area of the FDA’s communications. This will include editing, updating and writing for our website and email communications; the FDA’s engagement with the media; our growing social media output; writing and sub-editing copy for our award-winning magazine; and working with our branches and sections to help develop their communications. You will be given the chance to gain experience and share your views towards the union’s development of its communications plans.

What we are looking for

This is an entry level role, suitable for a recent graduate or someone in another entry position who is interested in moving into a communications role

You will be a fast learner with good grammar and proof-reading skills, who can quickly write clear and accurate copy. You will need to be adaptable, able to work to tight deadlines, and have a good eye for detail. Ideally, you’ll have an interest in current affairs.

In return you’ll gain a real breadth of experience, doing interesting and important work as a part of the FDA’s small, collaborative team. We’ll provide support and training to help you to develop in the role.
