FDA Equality and Diversity Committee chair, John McCullagh, and Equity's Jean Rogers addressing the fringe meeting at the FDA's 2012 Annual Delegate Conference
The FDA's Equality and Diversity Committee ran a fringe meeting at the union's 2012 Annual Delegate Conference on 17 May.
A short from the film "Miss Representation" was shown. This American film explores how the media's misrepresentations of women have led to the under representation of women in positions of power and influence. The nine minute trailer which was shown is available online here.
The film was introduced by Jean Rogers from Equity, the UK trade union for professional performers and creative practitioners. The session was very well attended by delegates, leading to a lively debate afterwards.
At the fringe meeting, Rogers referred to an Equity petition calling for a more equal representation of women in television dramas - more details can be found here.
