Following the announcement prior to the Autumn Statement that Government borrowing had fallen by more than expected to £4.8bn in October - £1.6bn lower than for the same month last year - thanks to a record amount of tax income for that month, President of the Association of Revenue and Customs Vicky Johnson said:
"The Chancellor must recognise the achievements of HMRC and invest in more resources, together with a fairer pay system that would properly recognise the hours worked and experience of staff.
"A properly resourced and rewarded HMRC would result in more tax, lower borrowing and a healthier UK PLC.".
